Valgenal Chestnuts
The Andalusian Cooperative Society CASTAÑAS VALLE DEL GENAL was founded in 1991 by peasant families collecting Chestnuts from Pujerra and Jubrique.
CASTAÑAS VALGENAL is a second-degree Cooperative subdivided into two first-degree Cooperatives, SCA San Antonio (Pujerra) and SCA Chestnut Producers of the Serranía de Ronda (Jubrique).
For a few years now, most of the chestnuts from the Genal Valley have been marketed through the CASTAÑAS VALLE DEL GENAL Cooperative, SCA, whose facilities, located in the municipality of Pujerra, are among the most advanced in Europe in terms of technology. , with an area of 2,300 m2 and an average production of 1,750,000 Kg. in a 40-day campaign.
This cooperative, which markets its production under the registered trademark Castañas Valgenal,is specialized in the preparation of fresh chestnuts (sterilization, classification, natural curing, brushing, waxing, etc.) which is carried out with completely natural methods.
