Jorge Ordoñez Winery Málaga

We produce and represent a series of wines that are honest, with a great sense of history, culture, and place

Bodegas Jorge Ordóñez Málaga, located in his hometown, was founded in 2004. Emerging from the partnership between Ordóñez and the Kracher family of Austria, the winery was established with the aim of reviving centuries of winemaking tradition in Málaga, which was destroyed by the phylloxera plague during the 19th century. Supporting his land and restoring its past glories constitute a dream of Jorge.

The winery has more than fulfilled its objective, producing the first and best dry Moscatel de Alejandría, Botani, and reviving the tradition of unfortified wines in Málaga. Our series of sweet wines, numbers 1 through 4, are among the best in the world, and they are made in the style of the sweet wines of Málaga, internationally recognized from the 17th to the 19th centuries. In 2012, Nº2 Victoria became the first Spanish wine served at a Nobel Prize dinner.

Jorge Ordoñez Málaga produces its dry and sweet wines with Moscatel de Alejandría grapes, the oldest clone of the Muscat variety in the world.

This is the original Muscat, which was originally extensively cultivated in Alexandria, Egypt, and brought to Málaga by Phoenician traders 3000 years ago. Moscatel de Alejandría is one of the oldest grape varieties in the world without genetic crossing, and the most important for commercial wine production. The Moscatel vineyards exploited by Jorge Ordóñez Málaga were planted between 1902 and 1974 on slopes without terraces or terraces. The vineyards in Málaga are perhaps the most extreme and dangerous in Europe, due to the decomposed slate soils and slopes of up to 70 degrees. The vast majority of sloping vineyards in Europe are distributed on terraces or are somehow mechanized to protect workers and facilitate harvesting. The vineyards in Málaga have remained intact. Pruning and harvesting processes are done manually, and mules carry six boxes of 15 kg each at a time up the steep slopes. A remarkable (almost heroic) form of viticulture.
